I wanted a webcam which shows accurate lighting to what is in the room, I did not want to have to put a lamp on my face in order to see it.
The [confusing] settings allow you to make it look normal, but they revert back to normal after to select "OK".
Also, it slows down the framerate so that it's unusable for recording videos.
The picture started off lovely at 640 resolution. But now it's gone all grainy... with a few dozen blue pixels spotted all over the image.
So it's no longer good for pictures or videos.
I'm reluctant to bother using it as a webcam.
The microphone works but whether it works with MSN i'm yet to see.
I only hope I can return this mediocre and unstable item.
Steer clear unless you want the bare minimum that would fail to impress 3rd world work stations.
It gets 2 stars just for being relatively cheap.

Okay. I've used this cam on MSN, Windows Live and Yahoo messenger. For the price it's not too bad, I wouldn't pay an arm and a leg for this thing, why not? Well for one thing if you have a flat moniter, there's no way to fix it unless you use LOTS of glue-tac, and even then it's too heavy. In addition it has very poor lighting, I have a 60-watt light on over head, a lamp behind me and it still looks like I'm sitting in a dark room. The image doesn't freeze often, so that's good, but it's not a very sharp image, even after messing with all the setting, it just doesn't pick it up. The sound is good, can clearly make out what is being said. All in all, if you want a cheap cam that does what it says on the box e.g. lets people see you, then this is fine, how well you want that person to see you... is a different matter...

It's a high quality webcam, which provides good features such as light and colour enhancement which really make the difference in poor light.
When I bought this item it was £13 which made it excellent value at the time.

By Rachael King,
With its high picture quality, easy to use software and good video this is a great webcam. The image doesn't freeze. The lighting is good during the day. You can easily hear and be heard with the microphone. I like that you don't have to hold the webcam to take a picture you can do it via the pc. (with my old 1 you had to hold it.) I would recomend buying this on the amazon marketplace (as i did) because you can get it for £10!

First of all, I have two computers with different operating systems. I originally installed this cam at the beginning of 2007 on Windows XP 32 bit SP 2. The webcam installed fine on XP, all features function well.
Vista Problem
Initially I attempted to use the CD that came with the cam to install, but that failed. I then went to Labtec.com and ownloaded the installation software specifically for Vista. I installed the software and immediately noticed that the on-screen buttons/display was very different to the XP install. Well thats fair enough but their is no manual to refer to to get things operating. After an hour of experimenting I manage to get everthing working apart from the motion detector function. A visit to the website to view their FAQ's was useless as there is nothing on the subject. I emailed the help desk and they returned the usual proforma email. "Sorry to about the problem, suggest that you uninstall the software, clean boot and re-install" It is clearly not an installation problem because everthing apart from the motion detector works fine. It is my contention that the motion detector function has not been built into the Vista compatible software and I will continue in my efforts to get proper answers from Labtec
Support Problem:
In addition to the fact that the both the FAQ at Labtec and the Help files are insufficient, the "manual" is no actual manual. It's a Quick Install Guide and that's it. The guide even says, "After launching the Webcam software, go to the online help for simple step-by-step instructions for using your camera." If you have to resort to Labtec support, then you are out of luck as the site not only does not offer a way to contact support online. Sure, the email link is there, but that results in a "catch all" proforma response. The actual questions remain unanswered
The Webcam Itself:
Finally on to the actual cam. Because I cannot get help, I've not yet discovered the secret to the "motion detection" feature on Vista There appears to be no option in the regular user interface (the settings dialog boxes). A search of the Help files has zero results and the manual (more appropriately titled Installation Guide) has no mention of the motion detection software whatsoever.
On XP it all works fine and I have no complaints.
I've never owned a cam before, but the picture quality is fair. It's not outstanding, but if you plan to use it on a personal level (chatting, personal videos, etc.) it should be good enough. If I discover or solve the problems I will reply to this review with a comment.
Overall I would not purchase this particular cam for a Windows Vista computer if I wanted a motion detector. As for XP, I would recommend without hesitation
