Very clear sound [unlike my old cordless phone, and another one I tried and returned] and good size buttons! Easy to set up and operate. Highly recommend.

Thinking our old BT twins (Studio 1500) had given up on us, I was looking for a replacement set of DECT phones and couldn't ignore the number of good reviews the Panasonic models have got on here, and various other sites I trust.

I almost chose the KX-TG7222 pair, but the sleek look and larger buttons of the TG8222 won in the end.

Compared to our old basic BT phones, the features of the Panasonics are fantastic; saving contacts from the caller ID list, remote access/setup of the answerphone from the handset, Night Mode (great if you've got teens) to name but a few. You might have to go through a couple of menus to find some of them though.

The reception and quality of calls is great, though it's too early to comment on the battery life. The display is good, menu navigation is fairly simple and will surely get more familiar in time.

All in all, a top choice; we really should have bought something along these lines sooner.

We since found out the problem wasn't actually with our old BT phones; it was with the local exchange.

We certainly won't be getting rid of these and going back to our old BT phones though!

I was very impressed initially but soon hit a worrying snag. I found that during a conversation, the volumn deminished to such an extent that I could hardly hear the person I was talking to. I found that a severe tap on the handset brought back the volumn to an extent but it repeatedly gave this problem. The odd thing was it affected BOTH handsets. I returned the system after a month and got a full refund. I have never encountered any problems with Panasonic equipment before, so was very disappointed.

    A reasonable phone overall.

It has a nice clear display and the menu options are easy to navigate around. The screen has plenty of space to display phone book entries, unlike our old Binatone phone where it could only hold names up to 8 characters. I also like the feature where, once you've entered all the contacts into the address book, you can automatically copy them to the other handset. This saves you time having to enter the phone contacts onto each phone separately.

There is a good selection of polyphonic ring tones although most of them are pretty poor in sound quality compared to what you can get on a mobile phone.

The reception seems fine and voice quality is on a par with our old phone.

The only negative point so far is that when the handset is resting on the charging cradle the screen is permanently lit up. It does not auto-dim or enter a screen saver mode like some mobile phones do. If you have one of these phones in your bedroom this can be a pain as it lights up the room at night. You'd be surprised how much light these phone produce in the dark! There is an option to adjust the screen contrast in the settings but it is not enough. I would imagine it consumes more power too this way.

You can leave the phone off the charging cradle to get round this problem but it defeats the purpose of allowing the phone to remain fully charged overnight. I don't want to mess around having to take the phone off the cradle every night. If anyone knows a fix for this let me know.

    By Mr. J. P. Daly,
Bought these phones as a replacement for an old Phillips Xalio 300 DECT. Absolute doddle to set up. Just plug it in and off you go (but use the cable supplied). Great range and very clear calls. Handsets are pretty light and the handsfree and intercom functions work really well. Handset set menu is simple and intuitive. Smart looking too. The batteries are rechargeable AAA so should be easy enough to replace when they eventually start to wear out. Very pleased.
