  Sound wise they're great, in a whole different league to my i-pod headphones.
  
  But the cable is impractically short then with the extension cable ridiculously long! and if like me you lose the extension cable, you can only use the headphones practically in a chest pocket!

  The 400s were presumably created as an update/upgrade of the 300s. The one discernible change from an excellent product is not the sound or the fit, which I continue to love, but a completely stupid change to the cable. It comes with a short little cable which from personal experience is too short for: Ipod in trousers; Ipod in a jacket pocket; Ipod in an exercise armband; Ipod on the table in a plane, Ipod in a shoulder bag. In other words almost any way in which you would listen to an Ipod. So you can put on the 1 metre extension which flaps about, has a heavy connection plug, catches on things, gets hopelessly tangled up and is generally a complete pain. I agree with M Byrne. Stick to the CX300s.

  Just bought a pair today from the Apple shop...the lead is way short..ok if you want to put your ipod in your top pocket otherwise rubbish. The box they came in was nuclear proof it took delicate surgery to gain access without shredding every finger....when i finally got in... very very dissapointed for £49.99, I expected to be wowed I was almost crying in my beer. I am going back to my shure's and these are going back to the Apple shop. I should have remembered what my Grandad taught me....

  I bought two pairs of these for my daughters as replacements for their Ipod headphones. They were really pleased by them, comfortable and great sound with the ability to cut out external noise (great on the tube). So should be a 5 star rating. Unfortunately both sets packed up within about 2 months. I'd bought them on ebay for about £9 each but the shop I had got them from had packed up when I tried to get replacements. Caveat Emptor I guess but we have replaced them with Skull Candy sets which were about the same price and are also good sound so waiting to see if they break....

  I'm thinking of buying a pair of these to use with my Sony Ericsson W880i - why? Because it has a SPLIT cable - yes, everyone, Mr N. Hamilton, Mr D. Morris and the rest - you obviously haven't read the small print. These headphones have been designed for mobile phones and other such devices that use a manufacturers own bespoke connection cable that then has a 3.5mm jack socket at the end (because the devices themselves don't have their own 3.5mm jack socket). Sony Ericsson supplied a pair of 'in ear' headphones with my W880i (that were very short) to plug into their own connection cable. However, I replaced those with a pair of CX300s which greatly improved the sound but meant I had a total cable length that was far too long. Thus, these CX400s have been produced to replace existing short headphones supplied with these kinds of devices!!! Bottom line - buy the CX300s or CX500s if your device has a 3.5mm jack socket. If it doesn't and you have to use non standard cable to connect, then get these!!!
