I am trying to get it to work, but keep getting the same error message: "Could not connect capture pin #0 to Grabber. Is the capture device being used by another application?"

Has anyone else had this error message? What does it mean and how do I fix it?

I chose this to scan some old transparencies and found it to be a shocking piece of junk - cheaply made and error-prone. I spent 4 hours struggling to make it work properly, endured numerous reboots and reinstalls and ultimately suffered a fatal error. In that time I managed to successfully scan just 4 slides. Life is too short - look elsewhere. I sent it back and bought a Canon scanner instead, which was cheaper, better made and worked straight from the box. See link - recommended! I was secptical about buying this scanner after reading a few reviews. But as it was the cheapest I gave it a go. But I think I got more for my money and was really pleasently surprised when I started using it. It is a compact unit which doesnt take up much space. Works exactly as it says on the box, although you do need to read the manual to get the best results. The scanning glass and lights also need to be cleaned (cleaning brush included) quite often, but I think that may be more due my negatives. The included software is adequate if you just want to transfer the pictures, but can get free software from the web if you want to really transform the pictures. Another plus is that it draws the power from the USB port and therefore doesnt have an external power adapter. This scanner does the job and works first time. Highly recommended.

I am finding this device a wonderful way of digitising my 35mm negatives from my pre-digital days. These are "snaps" that I just wanted digitised and the quality is fine for this purpose (i.e. as good as the original prints).

On my 3 year old computer everything has worked like a dream. Just be patient and wait 10 secs or so for the unit to calibrate the image before capturing it. I did try the device on a six year old computer but it was too slow to be tolerable so beware. It's probably best to read all these reviews to be aware of the many potential problems before they occur.

As Duncan Brady helpfully says in his review, the device is less impressive when it comes to slides. They look burnt out. However, like him I also found that capturing the image before the machine has had time to calibrate it resulted in a better but still unimpressive image (not as good as the negative scans).

Luckily, I have a friend who has a Nikon scanner that will do quality scans of slides, though I will be asking for only a few scans due to the time it takes on these more professional (and expensive) products.

Finally, the Veho itself is a really neat quality device (excepting the cheap film/slide carriers) which was unexpected at this price. It has been easily worth the purchase price for my application. It may be even cheaper second hand.

This is excellent value for money. After a few hours fiddling with it to try and get it to work (the instructions were'nt very good)I got it working.
I have spent hours and hours sorting through hundreds of old 35mm negatives of my wonderful mum and dad who are both now gone. I now have them both captured forever on disc. I'm just sorry I can't show them, they would love it.

By editing the photos on screen, some of them are clearer than the original photos.

    Good value for money, recommeded.
